UWGB Phoenix women’s basketball team is sent off to NCAA tournament | WBAY

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The UW-Green Bay Women’s Basketball team is getting ready to dance in the NCAA Division One tournament.

They were sent off Thursday as they begin traveling to the University of Maryland for the first round.

The 12 seeded Phoenix are taking on five seed Alabama this Saturday at 12:30. Head Coach Kayla Karius talked about helping players acknowledge their success before they hit the road.

“Its really important that you take a step back, we did earlier this week with our players, just reminded them that there isn’t an opportunity for everybody to play in the post-season, much less the NCAA tournament,” said Karius.

The City of Green Bay is also celebrating the Phoenix, with the bridge being lit up in green and white on Thursday.

The last time they won a tournament game was in 2012 over Iowa State.
