UW-Green Bay students provide free tax aid to community via VITA program

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — A group of college students are offering free help this tax season.

The UW-Green Bay Center for Financial Wellness is offering free tax help through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The program empowers community members while providing a hands-on experience for students.

Beginning this month, students in the program will be ready to assist people with disabilities, low-to-moderate income taxpayers and limited English-speaking taxpayers with self-filing with support, tax workshops and tax preparation services by IRS-certified volunteers.

To expand the program’s reach, it will be partnering with St. Nobert College, AARP Tax-Aide, Fox Valley Technical College, Oneida Community Education Center, and Brown County Public Library.

Tax preparation and consultation is available by appointment only, and in-person and virtual appointments are available. Individual information will be kept confidential, and returns are reviewed by certified tax professionals.

Volunteers are available to assist Monday – Saturday, through April 15, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Financial Wellness, UW-Green Bay campus, 2380 Wood Hall Drive, Green Bay.
