In the news: Phoenix b-ball’s Terry plays for brothers
There’s a great story in the Thursday (Jan. 16) Green Bay Press-Gazette sports page, focusing on Phoenix basketball player Sam Terry and her motivation(s) for success. The freshman forward has been through a lot, losing her baby brother, Alex, to a birth defect when she was just 6 years old. A second brother, Zach, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which means he has half a heart — and can’t play contact sports because of the danger. So Terry, Scott Venci reports, plays for both brothers, digging deep and thinking of them when things get tough. “I believe so much in guardian angels,” Terry says in the story. “I know (Alex) is looking down on every single person in my family. My teammates. Everyone. He is just doing the best he can up there.” Inspiring story.
