Not surprising: record retirements
Final figures show record numbers of government employees rushed to retire last year in Wisconsin as Gov. Scott Walker and the Legislature achieved significant change in employment terms, pay and benefits for most state workers. The Wisconsin State Journal reports the state pension fund received a record 18,780 retirement applications from employees of state agencies, school districts and local governments, compared to an average of about 10,500 in each of the previous seven years.
