Newsletter spotlights Prof. Lor’s study of Hmong K-12 teachers

UW-Green Bay is featured prominently in the spring 2010 issue of Kaleidoscope II, the newsletter of the UW System’s Institute on Race and Ethnicity. The lead article is by Prof. Pao Lor of the Education faculty; it’s a seven-page scholarly exploration of the successful recruitment of people of Hmong heritage into K-12 teaching careers in Wisconsin. The spring issue of Kaleidoscope II also noted IRE awards previously announced.  Receiving grants in the category of “Curriculum Development” were Prof. Kristin Vespia, Human Development, for “Psychology and Culture,” and Prof. Kathleen Burns, Human Development, for “Psychology of Stereotyping and Prejudice.” In the category of “Campus Activities,” Juliet Cole of the Institute for Learning Partnership and Sherry Lacenski of the Bookstore earned a grant for a workshop involving the Nia African/African-American Dancers and Drummers. A Campus Reading Seminar Grant went to Prof. E. Nicole Meyer, Humanistic Studies, for the autobiographical books The Lover by Marguerite Duras, and The Abandoned Baobab: The Autobiography of a Senegalese Woman by Ken Bugul.
