'Social Entrepreneur' Mycoskie to bring vision, shoe drive to campus

TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, who mixes business and philanthropy, is bringing his message of “doing well by doing good” to UW-Green Bay. Mycoskie, a former contestant on CBS network’s The Amazing Race and currently featured on a nationwide AT&T commercial, will visit the campus on Feb. 2, spreading his message of social entrepreneurship.

His business plan has a simple philosophy — for every pair of shoes sold by TOMS Shoes, another pair is given to children in need. In that spirit, UW-Green Bay’s Office of Student Life, Good Times Programming, UW-Green Bay’s Red Cross Club and UW-Green Bay’s Social Work Club, as well as the YMCAs of Green Bay, Green Bay Community Church, and Boys and Girls Clubs are collecting gently used athletic shoes, boots and business shoes.

Between now and Mycoskie’s visit in February, the footwear can be dropped off on campus in the Office of Student Life, in University Union Room 150; or in the community at any of the YMCA sites, Green Bay Community Church, The Lakeland Chapter of the American Red Cross Center, and east and west locations of the Boys and Girls Club.
