Video: The first (basketball) miracle of the season
Bryquis Perine’s improbable overtime buzzer-beater lifted the UW-Green Bay men’s basketball squad to an 87-86 victory Sunday over host Kent State in the Hispanic College Fund Classic. Trailing by two with less than 3 seconds left, the Phoenix triggered a desperation length-of-the-floor inbound pass. Kent State broke up the pass, but in the scramble the ball rolled along the sideline toward the corner and Perine picked it up and flung it toward the basket. It touched nothing but net, setting off a wild celebration. Coach Tod Kowalczyk confessed he didn’t see the basket, because he had assumed that the Phoenix had lost possession and turned toward the Kent State bench to offer congratulations.
