RecycleMania Week gets hoppin’ with hoops, fashion, exhibits

Participating in the annual RecycleMania competition helps reinforce the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle) and the actions each of us can take to lighten our impact on the environment. From March 4 – 8, you can learn more and participate in a number of activities to ‘lighten’ up. An area in the Cloud Commons will have booths and information staffed by student organizations throughout the week. Stop by and check it out. On Tuesday (March 5) you can come cheer on your favorite Upcycled garment designer at the Upcycled Textile Showcase at 7 p.m. in Phoenix Room B. Once you’ve got your cheer on, come over to the Lady Phoenix’s “Green” basketball game on Thursday (March 7)! Unfortunately, the NCAA prohibits the use of an actual green-colored basketball…we asked. However, WPS, our electrical utility, is supporting the green theme and our ReycleMania efforts by providing renewable energy through their NatureWise program. Booths and exhibits will be set up for your pre-game, halftime, and post-game walk-abouts and a special half-time audience participation game will be debuted. Most important, Athletics, Kress Events Center staff and student organizations are working hard to make this a Zero-Waste game – meaning as little waste as possible goes to the landfill!
