Student Affairs warning about copyright compliance

UW-Green Bay’s Dean of Students Office has sent a warning to students and staff about the federal laws designed to protect electronic copyrighted material. The laws “prohibit everyone from engaging in peer to peer file sharing of copyrighted music, movies or software.” Acts are a violation of UW policy 17.09(10) and can lead to a loss of network access plus additional academic, not to mention legal, sanctions. During the 2008-09 academic year 130 students at UW-Green Bay were identified as engaging in peer-to-peer sharing. So far this year, 19 students have received warning notices. For more information, contact the Dean of Students Office at 465-2152. For technical questions call one of the Help Center lines at 465-5163 or 465-2309.
