Rough Draft plans Saturday gig, without jazzy medievalist
Here’s an update on Rough Draft, UW-Green Bay’s favorite faculty/student band, which plays this coming Saturday (Sept. 18), from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Attic Books and Coffee, 730 Bodart. No cover charge. They’ll play, alas, without Stefan Hall, billed as “the best jazz guitarist among medievalists and the best medievalist among jazz guitarists,” who is taking some time away from show biz. The band’s remaining ax man, Brian Sutton, reports that Rough Draft will rely more heavily than ever on the vocals of Music Theatre students Shelbi Cox and Molly LeCaptain (both of whom also have leading roles in the Theatre Program’s fall musical, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). “With Stefan’s departure,” he says “we now lean a bit more toward folk or toward ‘unplugged’ versions of contemporary pop, a bit less toward jazz. The other elements of our repertoire—show tunes and a few original compositions—are still there.”
