Second Life workshops offered through state LearnTech Council

Leif Nelson in our Learning Technology Center shares word of an attractive series of workshops organized by the UW System’s LearnTech Development Council. Interested in using Second Life? The workshops will be conducted by UW System Learntech experts in a 90-minute session that includes 60 minutes of instruction, 30 minutes of Q&A, and extra one-to-one assistance with difficult topics. 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 — Managing Your Virtual Environment
Inventory Management, Appearance and Profile – You will see and practice the steps involved in creating and saving a new look for your avatar that is modeled after the blockbuster film “Avatar”, and also learn basic inventory management and learn how to edit your profile.

10 a.m. Thursday, April 14 — Creating Your Virtual Environment
This workshop will focus on general build terminology, a tour of the building tools Second Life provides, and the considerations you should keep in mind when embarking on your own build project or orchestrating an in-world classroom activity.

2 p.m. Thursday, May 12 — Best Practices for Teaching and Learning in Second Life
This session will look at pedagogical best practices in using Second Life and discuss the potential of Second Life to meet certain pedagogical needs effectively — specifically, Second Life orientations and learning activity templates.
