PEA hosts sustainability talk by off-the-grid Arizona professor
Author Guy McPherson, a professor emeritus of natural resources and the environment at the University of Arizona, is the guest speaker at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 13) in the Union’s Christie Theatre. His topic is “Preparing for a durable future in light of climate chaos and energy decline.” McPherson speaks about what he sees as two primary consequences of fossil-fuel addiction: global climate change and energy decline. He shares strategies he has employed to prepare for an uncertain future. McPherson lives in an off-grid, straw-bale house where he organic gardens, raises small animals for eggs and milk, and works with members of his rural community. The academic unit in Public and Environmental Affairs is hosting the Sept. 13 visit.
