UW-Green Bay’s Lawton Gallery to present 41st annual Juried Student Art Exhibition
The Lawton Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will provide a showcase for student artists beginning Thursday, Nov. 14, presenting the 41st annual Juried Student Art Exhibition at the gallery in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
The exhibition will open with a reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. It will run through Thursday, Dec. 5, with the exception of Nov. 28-30, when the gallery will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Fifty-five artists from across the UW-Green Bay campus submitted 126 works for consideration, and 47 artists had a total of 81 works accepted into the final exhibition. Lauren Sinner, a gallery/museum studies student, will be coordinating and designing the installation of the exhibition.
The juror for this year’s student art show is Beth Zinsli, the Director and Curator of the Wriston Art Center and Galleries at Lawrence University in Appleton. Zinsli gave a public lecture about her curatorial involvement in an exhibition that was part of the 2006 “TRANS” visual studies conference that was held at UW-Madison. Her talk was titled “Curating Collaboration and Interdisciplinarity: The Visualizing TRANS Exhibition.”
The student exhibition provides a great chance to view the works of student artists, which are available for purchase, said Lawton Gallery Curator Stephen Perkins. Individuals looking for arty gifts for the holiday season or other occasions will find a variety of works within an affordable price range.
Located in Room 230 of Theatre Hall, the Lawton Gallery is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday during fall and spring semesters. All gallery events are free and open to the public.
