Joint Finance affirms big cuts for UW System

The Legislature’s budget-writing panel, the Joint Finance Committee, voted along party lines Wednesday to approve $123 million in mid-biennium cuts for state agencies. The lion’s share, $46 million, is apportioned to the UW System. At UW-Green Bay, it was projected earlier that such reductions could amount to $1.6 million over the next 16 months. Although some had lobbied for a reduction in the lapse for the state’s public universities, the final amount Wednesday was unchanged from last fall’s initial proposal.
