The two local schools aren’t alone. Programs at 10 universities nationwide, including UW-Oshkosh, will be cut; other institutions, including UW-Steven’s Point, will receive fewer resources. An email from Jon Doiron, chair of UW-Oshkosh’s department of military science, said the cuts also include Marian University and Ripon College.
New ROTC students will not be able to enroll, and military science classes will only be taught to cadets with an Army scholarship or who are already contracted to serve, according to the email. This means some students may be disenrolled.
The changes have trickled down from the Trump administration’s deferred resignation program, which encouraged federal employees to leave their jobs while continuing to receive pay through September. Nearly 12% of the federal workforce left, leading to a reorganization.
