Get creative at the Youth Theatre Workshop, hosted by UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus

Green Bay, WI — The UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus will be buzzing with creative energy at the Youth Theatre Workshop on Monday-Friday, June 17-21, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for students aged 8-17 at Herbert L Williams Theatre. Spots are still available for kids to participate – registration can be found here.
Brittany Welch Pilz, Artistic Producing Director for the theatre, will be the instructor for the workshop, and students will rehearse the play “The Rainbow Fish” throughout the week. The theatre will hold a public performance for friends, family and other community members in the afternoon of Friday, June 21.
The workshop is designed to help young performers develop creativity, social skills, empathy and confidence through the performing arts, as well as learning the process of auditioning and preparing for a full stage production. Students will receive a well-rounded theatrical experience from the very beginning of the rehearsal process, as well as using theatre and acting-based games to learn skills such as objectives and tactics.
“This will be my sixth time teaching the summer theatre workshop,” said Welch Pilz, “and what I love most about it is how it brings new young theatre lovers out of the woodwork. We often have participants who haven’t had any experience in the theatre world, and once they’ve completed the workshop, they end up a staple in our children’s productions. These young performers are the future of theatre, and I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce them to behind the scenes.”
With bubbly, energetic dialogue and staging that invites wonderful creativity and flexibility, the universal message at the heart of this delightful musical “The Rainbow Fish” becomes much more than just a simple children’s story. With a dynamic cast as small as five players and fun, fishy wordplay, this well-crafted play for young audiences teaches that the joy of beauty is in sharing it with others. Adapted from the book by Marcus Pfister, translated into English by J. Alison James, with illustrations by Marcus Pfister.
