Josh Buntin’s top 5 photographs of 2023
Each December, we ask University Photographers to share their favorite snaps from the last 12 months (and some behind the scenes info) as we look back and reflect on the year. Join us in reviewing the top images captured by University photographer/videographer Josh Buntin and some of his thoughts about the images! If you enjoy these images, you can view colleagues Dan Moore and Sue Pischke’s top images.
Pause for Paws
“Who doesn’t love dogs? With all the stress the school year brings, everyone needs something to help them decompress. Pause for Paws has you covered. A number of therapy dogs visited to help students destress in the midst of a busy semester. Winston here was very photogenic as he engaged with students, definitely becoming a favorite. I heard one student tell his handler ‘I’ll be back for him.'”
Tiny Earth, Big Ideas
“Science labs always make great photos. Here, during one of the high school Tiny Earth labs led by Dr. Brian Merkel during the summer, two student mentors help a new student with her Tiny Earth project. I really like the focus and collaboration in this photo.”
Rising Phoenix
“Rising Phoenix is a great opportunity for high school students to get a head start on their higher education journey. Students at UW-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus had their orientation for the Rising Phoenix at the end of August, and the students were excited and were having fun preparing for their classes. This student was also just excited to be photographed.”
Jammin’ in the Fall Heat
“Many students took advantage of the heatwave we experienced in early October, including this student band. Playing covers of a lot of classic songs as well as some originals, this band was fun to capture photo and video of. The sky was clear and the sun was in a great spot to get some spectacular lens flares. I really like the collaboration between the two students in the foreground in this image, as well as the flare.”
Showing Pride at the HallowQueen Drag Show
“The HallowQueen Drag Show was a success for both the Pride Center and the University. With hundreds in attendance and many donations, the HallowQueen Drag Show was a great chance for student engagement and for collecting important resources for the Campus Cupboard/Closet. It also allowed students to be proud of who they are. Here, three students pose a photo in front of a rainbow backdrop.”
