UW-Green Bay Music Faculty, Hand Drumming Ensemble to perform Dec. 7

UW-Green Bay concert posterThe University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Music Faculty, along with the University’s Hand Drumming Ensemble, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall.

The first half of the program is titled “A celebration of 100 years of Cage,” an homage to the late composer, music theorist and artist John Cage, who would have turned 100 years old in 2012. UW-Green Bay’s faculty performing artists will play five Cage compositions, with the order determined through chance operations performed immediately before the concert.

Faculty performing artists are Associate Prof. Kevin Collins, trombone; Lada Gaines, wife of Associate Prof. Adam Gaines, soprano saxophone; Prof. Cheryl Grosso, percussion; Associate Prof. Eric Hansen, clarinet; and Assistant Prof. Courtney Sherman, voice.

Directed by innovative percussionist Prof. Cheryl Grosso, the UW-Green Bay Hand Drumming Ensemble will take the stage following a brief intermission. The group will perform a selection of Grosso’s own compositions, including “Rhythm Chant SM/FB,” “Rhythm Chant Momo Ado” and “Rhythm Chant 27.”

Hand Drumming Ensemble personnel are Kevin Bernard, Michaela Hogan, Eileen Lacenski, Candice Matuszak, Jamie Rodgers, Danielle Enderby, Amanda Kujawa, Benjamin LeComte and Benjamin Matzke .
