UW-Green Bay to present Vocal Jazz Ensemble concert with special guest artist

UW-Green Bay Music will present a Vocal Jazz Ensemble concert, featuring special guest Kristin Sponcia, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 at University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

Under the direction of Associate Lecturer Chris Salerno, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will present a diverse repertoire featuring numerous student soloists. The group will start off with “Conversa De Botequim” (Conversations at the Bar) by Noel Rosa and Vandico and Franciso Alves, arranged by Esmerelda Ruzanowsky. The first half of the concert also will include “Morning” by Lisa and Paul Stiller, “There is No Greater Love,” by Isham Jones, “Triste” by Antonio Carlos Jobim and other selections.

After a brief intermission, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform “Watch What Happens,” by Michael Legrand (arranged by Todd Buffa) and “Happying” by Todd Buffa with guest artist Sponcia. Sponcia, a jazz vocalist and pianist, then will take the stage to perform a program on her own. A 2000 UW-Green Bay graduate, Sponcia is an active pianist, vocalist, arranger, composer and educator. She specializes in unique interpretations of jazz standards and contemporary favorites. Sponcia, of St. Paul, Minn., performs her music with the Kristin Sponcia Quartet and accompanies some of the best singers in the Twin Cities.
