UW-Green Bay Lawton Gallery to present 42nd annual Juried Student Art Exhibition
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Lawton Gallery will present its 42nd annual Juried Student Art Exhibition Nov. 13-Dec. 4 (closed Nov. 27-30 for Thanksgiving break) at the gallery in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
An opening reception for the show will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, with awards announced at 5 p.m. Fifty-four UW-Green Bay student artists submitted 133 works to the show, and the final exhibition consists of 67 of those works. Works in all media are featured in the final selection and more than 20 awards will be presented during the awards ceremony.
Kristina Coopman and Laura Schley, two UW-Green Bay students in the Gallery/Museum Studies program, coordinated the exhibition’s installation and design.
The guest juror for the exhibition is Katie Ries, assistant professor of Art at St. Norbert College in De Pere. In her Juror’s Statement, Ries praised the caliber of work the students put forth.
“Across the board, the work submitted revealed a body of student artists and designers who make lots of things and make them well,” she wrote. “The work was thoughtful, engaging and well crafted. Even pieces made in response to specific assignments showed an engagement with ideas and materials that went beyond satisfying requirements and making the grade.”
Located in Room 230 of Theatre Hall, the Lawton Gallery is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday during fall and spring semesters (but will be closed Nov. 27-30 for Thanksgiving break). All gallery events are free and open to the public.
