UW-Green Bay Theatre and Dance to present ‘Uncommon Women and Others’

UWGB presents 'Uncommon Women and Others'

UW-Green Bay Theatre and Dance will present playwright Wendy Wasserstein’s Uncommon Women and Others to open the 2014-15 theatre season.

Uncommon Women is the tale of five graduates of the Mount Holyoke College class of 1972 who reunite for lunch in 1978. An extraordinary group of distinct individuals, these friends and former classmates meet to catch up and reminisce. Their memories of college, simultaneously touching, outrageous and idealistic, are seen in flashback scenes as they compare their dreams and expectations with where their choices have actually led them.

The play is recommended for mature audiences only.

UW-Green Bay Prof. Laura Riddle is directing the show, which has an all-female cast. When Uncommon Women was written, it was considered very cutting-edge, a play about women’s experiences at the beginning of the feminist movement, Riddle said.

“So that’s something that I’ve been trying to help get the cast up to speed on — a little bit more of a sense of what the ‘70s were like,” Riddle said. “I am looking at this as a really wonderful experience to learn something from them, to learn what they think and how they perceive things now, because it’s really important to me that this is a play that’s relevant to contemporary women.”
