Adult Degree Program to launch new partnerships in Southeast Wisconsin
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Adult Degree Program continues to expand its partnerships with Wisconsin technical colleges, and will formally sign two new agreements during ceremonies Wednesday, Oct. 9.
The day’s events will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with a partnership launch at Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee. A second ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. that day at Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee.
The agreements join existing partnerships between the Adult Degree Program and Fox Valley Technical College (Appleton), Northcentral Technical College (Wausau) and Nicolet College (Rhinelander). A dedicated Southeast Wisconsin admission and academic adviser, Jon Koch, already is working with adults at the two newest partner schools.
“This marks a very important step that we’re taking, to present our programs as an accessible and affordable online education option for the Milwaukee area,” said Steve VandenAvond, Associate Provost for the Division of Outreach and Adult Access. “We’re dedicating time and resources to make ourselves available to working adults in this market, working closely with our technical college partners to provide a more seamless path to a bachelor’s degree.”
UW-Green Bay’s Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) degree, which officially launched in 2007, focuses exclusively on technical college graduates who have an applied associate degree. Graduates with these degrees are eligible to pursue the BAS degree by transferring in 60 credits, starting at UW-Green Bay as a junior, and finishing the degree fully online. The technical college partnership is mutually beneficial, said Jonathan Feld, MATC Director of Articulation and Transfer.
“This partnership gives MATC students the opportunity to continue their education at UW-Green Bay in a seamless fashion,” Feld said. “Both institutions have students’ best interests in mind and this is a tangible example of putting students first.”
Added Denine Rood, WCTC Vice President of Learning: “This agreement will greatly benefit WCTC associate of applied science degree graduates who wish to continue their education and climb their career ladder. Armed with the credit they have earned at WCTC, they will now have the opportunity to seamlessly transfer to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to complete a bachelor’s degree at their own pace.”
UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden and Provost Julia Wallace, along with several representatives from the UW-Green Bay Adult Degree Program, will be present at both Oct. 9 ceremonies. State legislators and Gov. Scott Walker also will be invited to attend.
