Graduating senior Will to accept Alumni Association Outstanding Student Award

A University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Human Biology graduate with a perfect 4.0 grade point average will accept the University’s Outstanding Student Award during a Friday, May 16 ceremony on campus.

Nicole Will of Luxemburg will earn her degree in Human Biology with an emphasis in exercise science. She is graduating in just three years with summa cum laude, or highest, honors, and recently was accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at UW-Madison. Chosen by the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association, the Outstanding Student Award winner is acknowledged during the Friday awards event and again from the stage at commencement the following day.

Will’s academic success during her UW-Green Bay career led her to a position tutoring Biology and Chemistry students, and she worked closely with UW-Green Bay Human Biology faculty members on research and other assignments. Will reported to Associate Prof. James Marker on an independent research project that was part of a larger, ongoing Human Biology study; and, as part of a summer internship with Associate Prof. Amanda Nelson, worked with and mentored area high school students interested in the field.

Will served as president of the campus AT/PT/OT Club — made up of students pursuing studies and careers in various areas of physical therapy — and organized appearances by visiting speakers. She arranged volunteer opportunities for club members including staff assistance with the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon medical tent and the Green Bay Triathlon. Her campus involvement also included membership in the Phi Eta Sigma and Tri Beta honor societies. A member of the NCAA Division I women’s cross-country team at UW-Green Bay, she was a multiple winner of Horizon League academic honors.

As a community volunteer, Will assisted with the campus Habitat for Humanity chapter, the local Cerebral Palsy Center, and with Luxemburg-Casco Middle School as an assistant track coach. She worked on campus as a front-desk staffer for the Kress Events Center.

The Outstanding Student Award is a proud tradition for the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association, which has been soliciting nominations and designating a single Outstanding Student Award recipient for each graduating class since 1976. Will was nominated and selected from among nearly 900 graduating seniors eligible to receive diplomas at May 2014 commencement.
