UW-Green Bay Outreach offers new camp, Eco U: Focus on Water Resources
Students entering grades 10 through 12 in fall 2012 can enroll now for the Eco U: Focus on Water Resources Camp, Sunday July 15-Wednesday July 18, at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
Join in for a three-day exploration of water resources in, on and around the beautiful UW-Green Bay campus. Led by UW-Green Bay’s outstanding natural resources faculty, campers gain fieldwork, classroom and laboratory experience as they build awareness of some of the many issues confronting fresh water ecosystems. While enjoying this fun, challenging and engaging experience, campers have the option to earn one unit of college credit.
Eco U: Focus on Water Resources will provide hands-on learning for students interested in a variety of fields and careers, such as ecologist/biologist, fisheries biologist, laboratory analyst, chemical analyst/chemist, naturalist and wetlands specialist.
Co-Camp directors are Annette Pelegrin and Laurie Case, both of UW-Green Bay. Throughout the camp, UW-Green Bay faculty members and community science staff will be leading science experiments and fieldwork. Camp activities include hands-on fieldwork with experts in surface water, freshwater ecology, groundwater and human impact on vital water resources, as well as urban impact on watersheds. Attendees will measure water quality, investigate aquatic plants and animals in creek, bay shore and lakeshore environments, and conduct site visits to various research locations in Door County.
Visit the camp website, www.uwgbsummercamps.com, for faculty and staff updates.
Students can attend as commuters or as residents living in UW-Green Bay student housing. The camp fee is $279 for commuters. Resident students will pay $475, which includes instruction, room and board, counselor supervision and transportation to evening activities.
