Small Business Development Center among partners for no-cost financial series event

The Small Business Development Center at UW-Green Bay is one of several local agencies teaming up to present the year’s third session of “CONNECT! Local information for starting and growing businesses” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at the Brown County Central Library, 515 Pine St., Green Bay.

The topic for the evening is “Avoiding Bankruptcy and Dealing with Other Businesses That Did Not,” featuring discussion leader Tim Nixon, an attorney, shareholder and team leader at Godfrey & Kahn. Nixon also is a UW-Green Bay alumnus and was the mid-year commencement speaker in December 2011.

CONNECT! session attendees will learn what bankruptcy is, what the major causes are, how to avoid it and what to do in the event they have to consider it, among other valuable insights. Networking with complimentary light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m.

There is no cost to attend the CONNECT! event, but attendees are asked to register online or by calling (920) 496-9010. Everyone who registers will be automatically entered to win a Microsoft Surface tablet (must be present to win). Interested parties can view video from past events online.

No-cost CONNECT! events in 2014 begin with a financial series and are presented by Advance, a program of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, the Green Bay Packers Protégé-Mentor Program and Sam’s Club. CONNECT! events are planned with the SBDC and its Business Assistance Center partners SCORE and the Entrepreneur Resource Center at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. This is the third of three financial series programs that have been presented this year.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Green Bay is part of a statewide network of SBDCs working with business owners and entrepreneurs to facilitate business growth and improvement, and to launch successful new companies. Through no-cost consulting, low-cost entrepreneurial education, and strategic facilitation, SBDC experts serve as resources for small and emerging mid-size companies. The Wisconsin SBDC is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Extension and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
