Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble evening includes ‘Bugs!’ music

Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble concertUW-Green Bay Music will present a concert featuring the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 6 in the Cofrin Family Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

Conducted by UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. Kevin Collins, the concert will begin with music by the Symphonic Band. The group will open with “American River Songs” by Robert LaPlante. The band will then play “Their Blossoms Down” (Samuel Hazo) and wrap up its portion of the program with “Amen!” (Frank Ticheli).

Following intermission, the Wind Ensemble will take the stage and kick off their performance with “Mother Earth Fanfare” (David Maslanka). The group will then play “Dusk” (Steven Bryant) and finish up the evening with “Bugs!” a six-movement suite by Roger Cichy. The suite consists of Prelude, Dragonfly, Praying Mantis, Black Widow Spider, Tiger Swallowtail and Army Ants. “Bugs!” also incorporates a special narration and slide presentation by UW-Green Bay Professor of Biology and Entomology, Michael Draney, known around campus as UW-Green Bay’s very own spider man.
