UW-Green Bay presents 'Expecting Isabel'
GREEN BAY — Miranda and Nick, a New York couple, are trying to have a baby by any means necessary.
Their difficulties conceiving send them on an “Alice in Wonderland-esque” journey as they negotiate fertility clinics, adoption agencies and their own eccentric families.
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay presents Miranda and Nick’s story in the play “Expecting Isabel,” by Lisa Loomer, Feb. 26-28 and March 4-7, in the Jean Weidner Theatre inside the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
Show times for each performance are at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. Seniors and children under 18 are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets are $10 for UW-Green Bay students.
“Expecting Isabel” is a comedy about the booming baby business of the late 1990s, says stage manager Kyle Pingel. Miranda and Nick try any means necessary to have a baby, from traditional lovemaking, to fertility drugs, in-vitro fertilization, support groups, self-help books, medical specialists and adoption. The couple is tested repeatedly as their quest for parenthood begins to affect their careers, their marriage and their finances.
The play features 12 UW-Green Bay student actors playing the roles of more than two dozen characters.
Playwright Lisa Loomer co-wrote the screenplay for “Girl, Interrupted,” which starred Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie.
The main characters feature Derek Knabenbauer, a junior from Green Bay, as Nick; and Suzi Linder as Miranda.
