Case is new sustainability coordinator for UW-Green Bay

Laurie Case has joined the staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay as the institution’s new sustainability coordinator.

Case assumed her responsibilities in early January. She will provide leadership and executive staff support across a broad range of activities at UW-Green Bay, including participation in national initiatives such as Recycle Mania (a waste-reduction competition), the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (reducing greenhouse gas emissions), and ongoing efforts to adopt best practices in the implementation and tracking of sustainable practices.

She will also serve on the campuswide Sustainability Committee and take a lead role in developing a comprehensive sustainability plan for UW-Green Bay for implementation in 2011.

Case reports directly to UW-Green Bay Chancellor Thomas Harden. Funding for the limited-term position was made possible by reallocation from a previous vacant position in the Chancellor’s Office. In addition to her responsibilities with sustainability, Case will also assist the Chancellor’ and institutional leadership with logistics related to institutional strategic planning.

“We are delighted to welcome Laurie to the University,” Harden said. “UW-Green Bay is the original ‘Eco U,’ and sustainability is one of our core values. This position reflects the value of sustainability to the campus and its strategic planning initiatives.”

Case has an MBA in sustainable business from Marylhurst (Ore.) University. She also holds two master’s degrees, in human resources and industrial relations, and in journalism, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received her bachelor’s in biology/ecology.

A resident of Neenah and citizen member of that community’s Sustainable Neenah committee, Case worked most recently as manager of corporate communications for School Specialty, Inc., of Greenville, and prior to that as corporate communications manager for the Banta Corporation, Menasha.

From 1992 through 2000, she was in charge of communications for the Waste Management and Research Center (now the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center) in Champaign. She began her career as a research biologist specializing in biological control of invasive species, and bioremediation and environmental toxicology related to chemical spills.
