UW-Green Bay offers courses for current and aspiring pilots
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is once again partnering with Space Education Initiatives and Tailwind Flight Center to offer several aviation courses.
The non-credit course “Aviation and Navigation for Instrument Pilots,” is designed to prepare students for the Federal Aviation Administration’s instrument pilot written exam and provide a refresher for experienced pilots. Upon completion of the 8-week course students will receive an endorsement to take the FAA Rating Knowledge Test. A private pilot license or approval from the instructor is required for all students.
Sherwood Williams will teach students in the Green Bay area each Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., March 9 through April 27 at Tailwind Flight Center at Austin Straubel Airport. In the Appleton area, Jason Marcks will instruct students each Thursday from 6-9 p.m., March 10 through April 28 at Tailwind Flight Center at Outagamie County Regional Airport.
“Aviation and Aerodynamics for Private and Sport Pilots,” open to the general public, is designed to help participants understand the aerodynamic principles and physics of powered flight as well as to evaluate the exciting field of aviation as a career or hobby. There is no required prerequisite for this course.
Led by Marcks, this course will be held Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m., March 8 through April 26 at Tailwind Flight Center at Outagamie County Regional Airport in the Appleton area.
Enrollment for each course is limited to 20 students. The $300 registration fee includes course materials. The course fee does not include the fee for taking the FAA tests. Students must specify their choice for private or sport pilot track upon registration, and will receive the appropriate kit the first night of class.
