Camp Lloyd a featured charity in Dancing 4 Kids fundraiser

GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Camp Lloyd is one of several local organizations that will benefit from the upcoming Dance 4 Kids fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23, in De Pere.

UW-Green Bay alumna Stephanie Sabinash and a partner will do the East Coast Swing to raise money for Camp Lloyd, a day camp held on campus each summer for children who are grieving over lost loved ones.

Sabinash, a former Camp Lloyd counselor and December 2008 graduate with a double major in psychology and Human Development, agreed to be one of the participants involved in the Dancing 4 Kids event at the SC Grand Banquet and Convention Center in De Pere (1250 Mid Valley Drive).

“I think Camp Lloyd is a great organization to work with,” Sabinash said. “Anything I can do to help them out, I’ll be there.”

The competition is based on the TV show “Dancing With the Stars,” where audience votes determine the winners.

Sabinash has been trained in tap and ballet dancing and could carry Camp Lloyd far.

“I’m a little nervous, but I just hope lots of people come out and support the charities,” she said.
Local celebrities dancing in the event are former Green Bay Packer Harry Sydney, WLUK Fox 11 reporter Lindsay Veremis, and other area community and business leaders.

The fundraiser is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23. Advance tickets are $35 and include dinner, registration for door prizes, three dance competition votes and an end-of-the-evening dance lesson. Tickets at the door are $40.

Ticket proceeds are divided among the participating charities.

Charities, including Camp Lloyd, can receive extra support with individual dance competition vote tickets, which can be purchased online in advance. Proceeds from votes go directly to the chosen supported cause.

Buy event tickets and extra votes online at http://www.dancing4kids.org/. Major credit cards are accepted.

Camp Lloyd director, Prof. Illene Noppe is also accepting donations for extra dance votes. She can be reached at (920) 465-2703 or via e-mail at noppei@uwgb.edu.

“I am honored that Camp Lloyd was chosen as one of the recipient charities for Dancing 4 Kids,” Noppe said. “We are going into our fourth year of Camp Lloyd, and it has turned out to be a life-altering experience for the kids who attend, and for the incredible students and grief counselors who donate their time, energy and hearts to this cause.

“Stephanie was a terrific counselor for the past two years and will be awesome to see on the dance floor.”
