Nice work by Kress staff, Public Safety

It was a false alarm. Even so, Kress Events Center and Public Safety staff should be commended on the thorough evacuation of a thousand-plus fans at the Phoenix women’s game on Wednesday. It is believed that someone, likely inadvertently, activated a fire alarm and brought things to a strobe-flashing, alarm-sounding halt with about six minutes remaining in the game. It took only a few minutes to evacuate and just a couple of minutes to verify the cause and reset the alarm. Even television commentators doing the broadcast for MY32, despite the disruption to the telecast, mentioned on-air the efficient work of the staff. As a bonus, the incident didn’t appear to change the outcome. The Phoenix was up 63-51 against the 21st-ranked De Paul Blue Demons at the time of the alarm, and the vast majority of the fans returned to see the team finish off the upset, 79-68. The Phoenix (6-0) puts its 24-game regular season unbeaten streak on the line against Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 6) at the Kress Events Center.
