COVID-19 Why it Matters Part 27, Why so much pressure to get vaccinated? Transcript:

Hi, Brian Merkel, Microbiology and Immunology at UW-Green Bay and we are here to talk about why COVID-19 matters to you.

This question that people that are hesitant about getting the vaccine. They really want to know why those that are vaccinated, why scientists, physicians, what have you, care that they are not vaccinated? Why is it such a big deal?

Well, the answer to that question, is the more locks we put on the human door in terms of vaccinations to COVID-19, the less burden of that virus we’re going to have in the environment, which means that’ll give us the opportunity to get back to the life that we remember before COVID-19.

And it also means reduced numbers of infections, which also then means reduced chances for the rise of variants of COVID-19. It’s really for those two primary reasons. We all want to get back to the life that we remember. We don’t want more variants, which would make that challenging.
