Video Transcript – COVID-19 Why it Matters Part 26, I had COVID, why get the vaccine?

Hi, Brian Merkel, Microbiology and Immunology at UW-Green Bay and we are here to talk about why COVID-19 matters to you.

One of the questions I think that comes up quite often is for people that have been exposed, they’ve had an infection with COVID-19. Why should I get a vaccine then because I’ve been exposed naturally?

The great surprise in news is that if you go on and get the vaccine after you’ve been exposed naturally, the protection you get is far superior than we would have imagined.

And that means the amount of antibodies you make is far greater. It also means the breadth of protection those antibodies that you make because of those two exposure events gives you protection against all the variants that we know of to a far greater degree than we would have expected.

So, protect yourself, protect your family members, and help reduce the burden of COVID in the environment by getting vaccinated.
