On the same weekend that the U.S. soccer team was clinching a spot in the World Cup competition, the Phoenix men and women were also enjoying success. In overtime Saturday night, A.J. Konchar scored a goal to give the Phoenix a 3-2 victory over defending conference champion Illinois Chicago. On Sunday, the women’s soccer squad kept its home record unblemished with a 5-1 victory Sunday over Cleveland State at Aldo Santaga Stadium. Freshman Devahn Godfrey recorded the tenth hat trick in school history and the first since 2006, in leading the Phoenix (4-8-2, 2-2-1).
