UW-Green Bay celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with programs next week
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, UW-Green Bay presents Somos Latinas: Voices of Wisconsin Latina Activists. Two programs next Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 are free and open to the public:
Session #1: 11a.m to 12:30 p.m.
Session #2: 6 to 8:30 p.m. with a book signing reception
Location: Phoenix Room, University Union, Green Bay Campus
Here’s more: Twenty-five Latina agents of change share their inspirational stories in Somos Latinas: Voices of Wisconsin Latina Activists, co-edited by Andrea-Teresa Arenas, PhD, and Eloisa Gómez, who will speak at the event.
Somos Latinas shares the powerful narratives of 25 activists — from outspoken demonstrators to collaborative community-builders to determined individuals working for change behind the scenes — providing proof of the long-standing legacy of Latina activism throughout Wisconsin. Somos Latinas draws on activist interviews conducted as part of the Somos Latinas Digital History Project, housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Books will be available for sale at The Phoenix Bookstore on campus and at the 6 p.m. session, which includes a book signing by the authors.
Sponsored by the Office of Student Life, Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs, Diversity Task Force, Inclusive Excellence, The Phoenix Bookstore and the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Climate. For more information, contact Claudia Guzmán: guzmanc@uwgb.edu / 920-465-2464.
