Band bonus: Camp grants benefit Door County kids
Nearly 300 tweens and teens got the chance to make sweet music July 14-19, during Middle School Band, Orchestra and Choral camps at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
From newbie musicians to their more seasoned counterparts, everyone had a place during the week — and at the closing concert, held on the mainstage of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. About a third of this year’s participants came from Door County, attending camp thanks to grants from the Raibrook Foundation of Door County, said UW-Green Bay Camps Director Mona Christensen. Music teachers in the Sturgeon Bay, Sevastopol and Southern Door schools wrote the grants this spring, and in some cases music parent organizations made up the difference in transportation costs or a Friday night meal.
