Regent selection update: Student group leader calls for changes

We told you here yesterday about Gov. Scott Walker’s move to withdraw the nomination of UW-Platteville student Joshua Inglett to the Board of Regents after it was revealed Inglett had signed a gubernatorial recall petition in 2011. That decision is being by turns supported and criticized around the state today, with the leader of a UW-Madison student group calling for changes in state law pertaining to how student Regents are selected. David Gardner, the chair of Associated Students of Madison, said he’d like the law to mandate, rather than permit, that student candidates for the board are selected from nominees put forth by elected student government representatives. Inglett himself also is speaking out, saying he feels his character has been attacked during this process.
