JFC action involving WiscNet, Badgernet has tech community upset

Debate is growing over a Joint Finance Committee directive to the UW System involving disinvestment of $37 million in federal stimulus funding. The money was intended to continue development of WiscNet, a high-speed broadband network. Critics of the measure, inserted into the state budget just last week, say WiscNet in no way competes with private providers and in any event is far more economical than AT&T’s proprietary service, Badgernet.
