‘Phirst’ Phuture Phoenix scholarships announced Thursday

The first, that is ‘Phirst’ UW-Green Bay Phuture Phoenix Scholarships were presented Thursday (May 28) at a special ceremony held in the Phoenix Room of the University Union. Seven students will receive $1,000 scholarships that will be renewable each year. The seven students are members of the first class to visit UW-Green Bay when the Phuture Phoenix program was established in 2003. The seven recipients will include five students receiving Larry L. Weyers Public Service Foundation Scholarships and one each for the Billie Kress Scholarship and Cyndie Shepard Scholarship. Since inception Phuture Phoenix has welcomed more than 10,000 fifth-graders to campus and expanded beyond Green Bay into surrounding counties. In fact, it’s become more than a regional phenomena, serving as a model for programs in Wisconsin and elsewhere. We’ll have more next week.
