UW-Madison loses big-name professor

A highly regarded UW-Madison faculty member, one who has guest lectured previously at UW-Green Bay, is leaving for a job outside Wisconsin. Jeremi Suri, a history professor, is taking a faculty position at the University of Texas at Austin. His new job, the Mack Brown Chair of Global Leadership, endowed with money raised by the Longhorns football coach, will allow him to research and teach courses on how history can inform public policy, especially foreign policy. Suri, who cited plans to reduce state employee compensation in Wisconsin, is taking a one-year leave of absence with the opportunity to come back. His salary will increase from $113,000 to $220,000.
