Today in Madison: Joint Finance considers tuition freeze, taxpayer funding

Lawmakers are meeting today (May 23) in Madison to discuss a proposed UW System tuition freeze, as well as taxpayer funding for the System and its member campuses. The Joint Finance Committee is likely to write a two-year tuition freeze into the budget, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, and also will discuss how much taxpayer money to provide for the System. Budget discussions, of course, have been complicated by recent attention to UW System cash reserves, and Gov. Scott Walker recently revised his recommendations pertaining to funding for the System. Here’s a preview story; we’ll bring you additional details in a future Log.
