Aldrete, Lukesh win Research Council grants for research/teaching

Profs. Gregory Aldrete of Humanistic Studies and Julie Lukesh of Natural and Applied Sciences were informed earlier this week that their respective proposals to the campus Grants for Integrating Research and Teaching program have been selected for funding. Aldrete will receive $1,308 for phase II of his “Linothorax” project. (Aldrete and his students past and present have demonstrated the effectiveness of lightweight, linen-based armor by re-creating the handmade protection worn by Greek armies.) Lukesh earned an award in the amount of $1,492 to support the project “Synthesis of Obolactone.” (We’d try to explain but we can’t, easily; needless to say, it’s complex chemical stuff.) Lukesh’s research involves student participation, as well. The grants are for the 2009-10 academic year.
