Phoenix honored for outstanding Academic Progress Rate score
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The women’s basketball team at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is being honored by the NCAA with a public recognition award for its latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score. Teams being honored posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the NCAA’s broad Division I athletics academic reform effort.
“This award is a reflection of who our players are as people and the pride that they have in being true student-athletes,” Green Bay head coach Matt Bollant said. “Our coaching staff, administration and community can be extremely proud of the way this team represents the university.”
Green Bay was one of just nine women’s basketball programs honored that also advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The others included: Connecticut, Dartmouth, DePaul, Drexel, Lehigh, Liberty, Ohio State and Villanova.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 976 to a perfect 1,000.
Multi-year APR scores for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition awards, will be announced May 6. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years.
