Support the Phoenix by seeing a WIAA girls game this Saturday
Huh? Well, yes. You have no doubt seen the extensive coverage about how the WIAA Girls Basketball Tournament taking place at the Resch Center through Saturday is a nice economic win for the Green Bay community. Well, the game is also a publicity boost for UW-Green Bay and its athletics program, as well. Each of the 15 games, broadcast statewide, in being contested on a floor emblazoned proudly with a huge Phoenix Athletics emblem at center court, and the words “UW-GREEN BAY” dominating both endlines. Plus, serving as host city for the tournament tends to confirm Green Bay’s position, through the Phoenix and some strong area girls teams, as de facto women’s basketball capital of Wisconsin. Many observers believe solid attendance and successful tournaments over the two-year tryout could make Green Bay a potential long-term home for the girls WIAA tourney.
