Military sendoff at Kress Center

Approximately 100 soldiers who are bound for Afghanistan later this year were honored March 5 with a sendoff on the UW-Green Bay campus for the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion.

The special community ceremony took place at the Kress Events Center, with several hundred family members and friends in attendance. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that the unit is beginning a nine-month assignment in provinces of eastern Afghanistan in June. It is the unit’s third deployment this decade, but the first two were in Iraq.

The 30-minute ceremony was attended by U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh; U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble, R-Lawrence; Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt; and Brown County Executive Tom Hinz.
