First ever ‘extramurals’ tournament headed to the Kress Center

Twenty-three teams representing 14 different colleges and universities from across Wisconsin will compete in the WIRSA (Wisconsin Intramural Recreation Sport Association) Basketball Tournament, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20 at the Kress Events Center, UW-Green Bay. It’s the sixth year for the growing tournament and the first time UW-Green Bay has hosted a state extramural event of any kind. This will also be the first time UWGB will be represented in the tournament with a women’s team. Sixteen men’s and seven women’s teams have entered. Games will be played in the Kress Center (arena) and the East and West Gyms of the Kress Events Center. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games.

Pool play begins at 6 p.m. on Friday evening and concludes Saturday morning. Elimination play will begin early Saturday afternoon and conclude with the men’s and women’s championship games scheduled to begin simultaneously at 6 p.m. Saturday evening. Eighteen student officials from various intramural programs across the state well officiate the games. The Kress’ student staff will provide assistance with the event operations, score keeping, hospitality and other duties. Congratulations to Casey Pivonka, Kress recreation program coordinator, and his student staff in their coordination of this event. This event is free and open to the public.
