'Fourth Estate' wins top WNA collegiate award

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association named UW-Green Bay’s school newspaper, the Fourth Estate, the winner of the state’s General Excellence award for weekly college newspapers in its 2008 Collegiate Better Newspaper Contest. Dan Whelan, former 4E editor; Rachel Rivard, current editor; Maureen Malone, managing editor; Katie Stilp, copyeditor; and Prof. Victoria Goff, adviser, learned of the award at the honors luncheon Jan. 30 at the annual WNA convention at the Radisson in Ashwaubenon. Whelan, who also won an individual award for opinion writing, accepted the award on behalf of the Fourth Estate. According to the judges, the paper was “pleasant to look at and well written. Feature ideas were fresh and the layout was clean. The photography rivaled some of the small town weeklies in the state.”
