UW-Green Bay Associate Provost for Academic Affairs Tim Sewall, quoted in a local newspaper report, has shared the possibility of reinstituting the January Interim — or at least a form of winter term. Sewall responded to an inquiry from a Green Bay Press-Gazette reporter by confirming that an online pilot program of 10 classes will likely be offered in 2011 during the usual semester break. The original January Interim was eliminated during the mid-1990s as a cost-cutting measure. However, with the increasing popularity of online classes the revival of January Interim is one way that the University is trying to meet the goal by UW System President Kevin Reilly to increase the rate for four-year graduations, Sewall said.
