Brown County MLK Committee Hosts 27th annual (virtual) Celebration

GREEN BAY –On Jan. 15, 2022, the Brown County MLK Celebration Committee will host its 27th annual event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s celebration will carry the theme of “The People’s March Continues…” —a phrase that pays homage to the struggles of the past while reflecting on the importance of creating a more just and harmonious society.

“This event serves as a reminder that the fight for racial justice, equality and harmony is not only happening across the nation, but here in our own backyard as well,” said UW-Green Bay’s Miriam Brabham, co-chair of the Brown County MLK Celebration Committee. The event, free and open to the public, will take place virtually beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Attendees will join through the Brown County MLK Celebration Facebook page and safely take part in the festivities. The event will include many familiar as well as new elements from past programs, including:

•K-12 contest to creatively interpret this year’s theme through illustration, writing and narrative

•Performances from Washington Fine Arts Choir and Roeman Hamer

•Award recognition for teachers and community members“

Our mission is driven by recognizing and bringing together the diverse cultures and individuals that make our community great. While our annual event is a celebration of unity, we continue to observe the teachings of Dr. King this day and every day,” said Mohammed Bey, co-chair of the Brown County MLK Celebration Committee.
