State employee salaries will be published online by Gannett

A database listing salary information for all UW System employees earning more than $25,000 per year — including staff and faculty members at UW-Green Bay — will be made publically accessible and be the subject of news coverage later this week. It is expected that Gannett’s 10 Wisconsin newspapers will carry news coverage by Sunday (Jan. 6) and post links to the online lists as early as Thursday (Jan. 3). The database, information derived from Fiscal Year 2011-12 payrolls, was assembled by Gannett from public-record information available from each institution as provided by UW System, and from other state agencies. Similar media projects in recent years have posted compensation info for public school teachers and staffers, and other municipal and public employees. Typically, such database projects offer a rough, one-size-fits-all snapshot and might not footnote, for example, a one-time overload or overtime pay. Those with questions about a particular listing may contact UW-Green Bay’s director of Human Resources, Sheryl Van Gruensven (vangrues@uwgb.edu), or records custodian Dan Spielmann (spielmad@uwgb.edu).
